A new regulation from the Ministry of Commerce targeting restaurants, bistros, and cafes has come into effect. Businesses will be required to share product prices both physically and digitally.
The Price Tag Regulation amendment published in the Official Gazette dated October 11, 2025, numbered 33044, has introduced a price information sharing requirement for businesses offering food and beverage services. Under this regulation, restaurants, bistros, cafes, and similar establishments will report to the Ministry of Commerce through an electronic system to provide customers access to price tags of products they will purchase.
According to the new system, businesses will provide their price lists to consumers through a QR code method. Upon request, businesses will also be required to physically show the price list. This way, consumers can learn about the menu and prices before visiting the establishment.
The regulation also covers products sold in bulk and weighed in front of the consumer. For these products, the weight of the container or packaging (tare) will be mandatorily deducted. Thus, consumers will only pay for the product they purchase, and the packaging weight will not be reflected in the price.
An important change has also been made within the scope of the regulation for businesses selling books, magazines, newspapers, and similar products. The prices of these products can now be displayed not only with labels but also through electronic devices.
According to the Ministry of Commerce's statements, the main purpose of the regulation is to establish procedures and principles regarding price tags of products offered for sale at various businesses. This way, price transparency will be ensured in the market while consumer rights will also be strengthened.
The regulation amendment will be made publicly accessible in a transparent manner and will begin full implementation after the transition period determined for businesses.
